MOST 10-year-olds want a new bicycle or the latest computer game for their birthday.

But WIN Entertainment Centre celebrated its move into double digits with a $160,000 roof rigging system.

The new system will allow the centre to install the vast array of production equipment and curtains in half the time.

Reducing time saves money, which should make the WEC more appealing to touring companies.

Member for Cunningham Sharon Bird said she had lobbied the Federal Government for the system, which was officially launched by Wollongong Sportsground Trust chairman Chris Christodoulou yesterday.

It uses nine huge monorails which allow lights, curtains and other equipment to be smoothly and easily trolleyed into place.

The centre's month-long birthday celebration includes Saturday's Wollongong Hawks versus Sydney Spirit basketball game.

Covers band Gotcha will perform at the game, and the centre will present an enormous birthday cake.
