Pam's Birthday Bash A Knockout

LAKE Illawarra was the ideal backdrop for a birthday bash on Boxing Day.
The Bachelor family were among those who staked out a waterfront picnic spot at Reddall Reserve yesterday morning for a day of food, games and relaxation. For most, the day was about unwinding with family and friends. But Oak Flats grandmother Pam Moore celebrated her birthday with husband Gerry, four children and seven grandchildren. It was just a stone's throw from home for her Warilla son Grant Bachelor and his wife Jayne. That had its advantages: their eight-year-old daughter Blaire could ride her new bike to the lake."This is a lot easier than traipsing around the countryside in a convoy to Minnamurra Falls or somewhere else," Mrs Bachelor said.It was a bit further from home for Mrs Moore's daughter Joanna, who travelled from Toowoomba with husband Bogdan Matic and 10-month-old Cassandra. After setting up their gazebo at 10.30am, it was time to kick back with watermelon, cold drinks and a hit of tennis. There were also plans for fishing, a light picnic lunch and, of course, the birthday cake."We will stay here for a couple of hours," Mrs Bachelor said."The weather is really nice. The flies tend to stay away in the wind, so the breeze doesn't bother us."
