BATHURST 1000 winner Jason Bright helped Belmont's Peter Riddell cut an early birthday cake yesterday.

The cake was balanced on the bonnet of a bright yellow Ford Falcon XR8 sports sedan, which Mr Riddell took possession of yesterday as the winner of The Herald/Ford "XR8 for a Month" competition.

"To win the car is just fantastic," Mr Riddell, who turns 64 next Thursday, said.

"All these years I've been entering Herald competitions and now I've cracked it for the big one."

Mr Riddell has some serious travel plans for the Falcon, including a trip to Brisbane to visit his brother.

But first nine-year-old Jackson has asked his grandfather to pick him up from school this afternoon.

Jackson will wear his Jason Bright-autographed cap to class, no doubt to score some big points at show and tell.
