ONE of the region's largest sporting organisations, Kembla Joggers, will celebrate its 30th birthday today with the first race of the 2003 road and cross-country program.

The club is expecting a large turnout for the race, and record membership and participation levels during the year.

Kembla Joggers also won the NSW winter club premiership last year with Russell Dessaix-Chin taking out the NSW Distance Runner of the Year title.

A large birthday cake will be cut just before the 5km Puckey's cross-country classic event at 3pm at Stuart Park next to North Wollongong Surf Club.

Registrations will be taken between 1.30 and 2.30pm.

The club will host the NSW mountain running championships at Mt Kembla starting from 7.40am.

The start and finish will be at Mt Kembla Lookout on Cordeaux Rd, Kembla Heights.

Illawarra runners Ben Dubois and Barry Keem are likely to be top contenders for the line honours in one of the most gruelling running events in Australia.
